Once again, California has become the frontline for a battle over animal welfare. This November, the issue of farm animals and the space they deserve will be coming to a ballot box.
This Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., the Merced County Courthouse Museum will hold an open house to celebrate its 25th anniversary. We will take our visitors to all the hidden treasures of the building. In addition to many off-limit areas, visitors will also get a backstage tour of the museum office, registrar's office, textile room, artifact storage room and archives, not to mention the secret place where the original county jail was.

The Courthouse Museum textile room is home to a wide array of donated items from Merced County's history dating from the 1880s to the 1970s. Besides a variety of men's, women's, and children's clothing items, we have an ethnic collection, a costume and reproduction collection, quilts from different eras and organizations, rugs, tablecloths, and commodity sacks from local merchants.
