Around Town: Family hamburger night

LIVINGSTON -- The Livingston/Delhi Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 8327 and Ladies Auxiliary will host its Family Hamburger Night from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Livingston Veterans Memorial Hall, 1605 Seventh St. The public is invited; you don't have to be a member to attend. Enjoy hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fish sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs and chili. Sandwiches include choice of homemade salads and prices range from $1.50 to $3.50. Roast beef dinner

The Coulterville United Methodist Church will host its roast beef dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday on Highway 49 across from the Coulterville Park. Cancer study

The American Cancer Society is looking for Valley residents to participate in a cancer prevention study. They will have a meeting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 21 at Johansen High School in Modesto. Participants must be between 30 and 65, must never have been diagnosed with cancer and must be willing to make a long-term commitment to the study, which means filling out followup surveys at their home periodically. This year will be the largest July 4 celebration Atwater has ever hosted. Fair tour for kids

The 2008 Merced County Fair is going to be offering a one-day tour of the fair for children. The tours will last about an hour and are offered from 9 a.m. to noon on July 17. Children will get a chance to see sheep shearing, a female sheep getting ready to give birth and much more.
