Around Town: Back To School Night

ATWATER -- Buhach Colony High School will hold its Back To School Night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Buhach Colony theater. Parents are encouraged to visit their child's classrooms for teacher presentations. For more information, call (209) 357-6600.

Shopping spree

Merced 20-30 Club will host its third annual Children's Shopping Spree on Aug. 30 in partnership with the Merced City School District. Children in need will be given a backpack, school supplies and $100 to purchase much-needed clothing.

Last year more than 30 children benefited from the Merced 20-30 club's shopping spree. This year, the club's goal is to raise enough in donations to sponsor at least 40 children.

Anyone interested in donating funds, a backpack or school supplies, please send the donation to Merced 20-30, Inc., Tax ID No. 20-49422727, 3144 N. G Street, Suite 125-327, Merced, CA 95340 by Monday. All proceeds go directly to the project and all donations are tax-deductible. For more information, e-mail merced2030@yahoo.com.

Free trees

Anyone who joins the Arbor Day Foundation will receive 10 free Dogwood trees. To receive the trees send a $10 membership contribution to Ten Dogwoods, Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City, NE 68410 by Aug. 31 or join online at arborday.org.

Free vocal lessons

The River Lights a cappella women's chorus will offer free group vocal lessons starting Sept. 8 at the Geneva Presbyterian Church Social Hall, 1229 E. Fairmont Ave. each Monday evening beginning Sept. 8 and ending Oct. 6. The 32-member chorus is seeking female singers who wish to enhance their vocal skills and perform with an award-winning chorus in its annual show Oct. 11. Pancake breakfast

The Atwater-Winton Lions Club will host its pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon on Sept. 13 at the Atwater Women's Clubhouse, Third Street and Grove Avenue.
