Valley Farmers Market
The Central Valley Farmers Market is open year-round, rain or shine, every Saturday at the Merced Flea Market at G Street and Childs Avenue and on Thursdays and Sundays at the Atwater Flea Market, 2877 Atwater Blvd. Both markets are open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and now accept food stamps.

Hunter education
The California Department of Fish and Game is in dire need of volunteers to teach hunter safety classes in Merced. To apply you must be at least 18 years old, have successfully completed a hunter education course and have no felony convictions. Books 'n' Things shop
Books 'n' Things Friends Shop, inside the Merced County Library, has used hardback and paperback books, books on tape, videos, greeting cards and old LPs for sale. All our items are donated and the proceeds go to the county library to purchase new materials. It is open every afternoon the library is open and is run by volunteers. If you have books to donate or need something new to read come and see us.

Small business help
SCORE is a resource partner of the Small Business Administration that provides free confidential counseling and low-cost workshops on how to start and run a successful business. Counseling sessions are available at 2, 3 and 4 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday, the fourth Saturday at noon or sessions can be scheduled by calling Merced's Workforce Investment Board at (209) 724-2033. The office is at 1880 Wardrobe Ave. Workshops are conducted at noon and 2 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month and the reservation fee is $15. Advance registration is recommended by calling (209) 724-2033.
