Scholars get dollars

The Merced County Legal Secretaries Association will host its 25th annual barbecue fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 at the Horsemen's Club, 499 Nevada St. No-host cocktails at 5:30 p.m. precede dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 for tri-tip, ribs, beans, salad and rolls. A silent auction and silent dessert auction are also planned. A portion of the proceeds are used to give scholarships to local students pursuing a career in the legal field. Salvadori cooks meal

Catherine Manfredo will be the special guest when Catholic Charities hosts its 12th annual Gathering the Harvest fundraiser from 6 p.m. to midnight on Sept. 13 at the St. Patrick's Hall, 673 E. Yosemite Ave. No-host cocktails precede dinner catered by Mike Salvadori and crew.

Admission is $25 and advanced tickets are required.

Catholic Charities, on the average, provides services to 2,500 people in the Merced County area with food distribution, emergency services, shelter, clothing and immigration assistance. For more information, call (209) 383-2494.

Lions flip pancakes

The Atwater-Winton Lions Club will host its pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon on Sept. 13 at the Atwater Women's Clubhouse, Third Street and Grove Avenue. Golfers help pregnancy

The Alpha Pregnancy Help Center's golf tournament fundraiser will be held Sept. 19 at the Stevinson Ranch Golf Club. Registration at noon precedes a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Awards, dinner and silent auction begin at 6:30 p.m.
