Taste of Merced County: Culinary adventure

Soroptimists of Merced will present "California -- A Culinary Adventure" on June 5.

The event will celebrate the organization's 35th annual hors d'oeuvres festival, and guests will enjoy samplings of food from the Gold Country, the Pacific Ocean, San Francisco, the Wine Country and Valley farmlands. The Capitol Bar will offer California wines and mixed drinks along with soft drinks.

The event will be held in a garden setting, and all proceeds go to scholarships for local students and to local organizations to help improve lives in the community. Free shuttles will depart every few minutes from the Merced Mall and will be available all evening.

Tickets are $30 each and may be purchased at the Merced Mall, Merced Floral or by calling (209) 722-3881.

Membership drive

The Active 20-30 Club of Merced No. 53 will host a membership drive at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Prestige Massage and Skin Care, 517 W. 19th St.

This is open to all men and women from ages 20-39 and hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served.

The Active 20-30 Club provides leadership growth, friendship and personal development, while serving local children's charities in the greater Merced area.

The Mariposa Rotary Club will present its 5th annual Fine Art and Wine Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Mariposa Historic Courthouse. Please no pets allowed.

Chili verde dinner

Club Mercedes will host a chili verde dinner fundraiser for 9-year-old Alberto Diaz Jr. who is undergoing treatment for cancer at City of Hope Center in Pasadena, to help his family's travel and personal expenses.

The event will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at 569 W. 9th St. Tickets are $8, dine-in or carry out. Cash donations may be made at Merced School Employees Federal Credit Union Account No. 80489-001.

LIVINGSTON

Farm-picked food

The Community Alliance with Family Farmers along with other farming, food and health organizations invite you to spend your weekend on a river farm Saturday.

Pick organic blueberries and cherries, listen to live music and vivid storytelling. Workshops on home gardening, farming with nature, fishing, alternate energy and much more. All this and more will happen from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 12230 Livingston Cressey Road.

Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 3 to 12. Saturday night campsites are $10.

A food and wine event will be from 4 to 7 p.m.

Cost is $20 for all day participants or $25 at the gate.
