Big Red One meets
Veterans of the U.S. Army's renowned 1st Infantry Division -- the Big Red One -- will have their 90th annual reunion in Colorado Springs, Colo., Aug. 20-24 at the Crowne Plaza. The reunion is conducted by the Big Red One veterans' organization, the Society of the First Infantry Division. Veterans and guests at the 89th reunion numbered 960.
The 1st Infantry Division is the Army's oldest and most famous division. It fought with great distinction in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, the Gulf War and now, Operation Iraqi Freedom where the Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team from Germany and the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Combat Aviation Brigade and several smaller units from Ft. Riley, Kan., are currently serving. In addition to combat service, the Big Red One also served with distinction in Germany and the U.S. during the Cold War. Its 1st Brigade continues to train thousands of Military Transition Team members and deploy them to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Atwater Class of 1988
Atwater High School's class of 1988 will have its 20-year reunion July 5 at 5 p.m. at the UC Merced Joseph Gallo Recreation Center.

Class of 1963
The class of 1963 will have its 45-year reunion Sept. 13, at the Fish and Game Club, Lake Yosemite. As with the 40-year reunion Merced and El Capitan classes of 1961, 1962 and Merced 1964 are cordially invited to join classmates and renew old friendships.

Atwater Class of 1958
Principal Linda Lucas, faculty, staff, students and committee have announced that Atwater High School will turn 50 this year.
The Fabulous 50 School Reunion is planned for Oct. 17-18.
The event will begin with participation in all the homecoming activities planned for Oct. 17. On Oct. 18, the reunion will continue on the AHS campus, 2201 Fruitland Ave., with a Community Day of food, movie presentation in the gymnasium, ice cream in the cafeteria and tours of the campus.
