LIVINGSTON -- With a new police chief in place, Livingston officials expect their community's public safety to benefit from a man who spent several years working in law enforcement in the Bay Area.
On a unanimous vote, the City Council approved an employment agreement with Ruben Chavez, who worked as a lieutenant with the San Jose Police Department before working as a lieutenant at the San Jose/Evergreen Community College District Police Department.Chavez, 51, will earn an annual base salary of $113,208. Former police Chief Doug Dunford, who separated from the city early last year, got an annual base salary of $124,812. The decrease in salary for the post is consistent with other local cities that have reduced pay for leadership positions because of the tough economy.
