Pursuit ends with arrest of man

A suspect wanted on five warrants in Merced County was arrested after a pursuit that started near Keyes ended after he crashed a pickup into a utility pole Wednesday afternoon in Modesto, authorities said.

Officers caught up to Armando Vasquez, 22, of El Nido and took him into custody after he ran from the crashed gray Dodge pickup, police said. Vasquez was wanted in connection with a Merced County crime.

On Wednesday, Merced County sheriff's deputies spotted Vasquez driving the pickup in the Keyes area. Vasquez then fled and the chase began. Modesto and Ceres police joined the pursuit that ended about 3:15 p.m. when the pickup crashed on Riverside Drive.

"We had developed information that he was in Stanislaus County," said Deputy Tom MacKenzie.

Medics treated Vasquez at the scene before he was taken into custody.

Vasquez was wanted in Merced County for armed robbery, several counts of domestic violence, stalking, making terrorist threats, shooting into an inhabited dwelling, and assault with a deadly weapon.

He'll also be charged for felony evading a police office, reckless driving and additional charges. He was booked into Stanislaus County Jail.
