Arrest in clothing store robbery
A man, who police say committed a brazen burglary at Helen and Louise Clothing Store and made off with $8,000 in merchandise, has been arrested.
Merced police arrested Arthur Leo Griffin, 38, around 2:30 p.m., said Lt. Bimley West.
West said police identified Griffin after viewing video footage from the store.
Police responded to the store at 1804 Canal Street because of an alarm call at 5:35 a.m. Friday, arriving at the scene at 5:36 a.m., West said.
Police discovered the front door had been forced open. West said police believe Griffin has robbed the store on two other occasions. He was arrested allegedly wearing some pants from the store, he said. The stolen items were returned to the store owner. Griffin was booked at the Merced County Jail for three counts of commercial burglary.
