Bomb scare at downtown bank draws police attention
The Merced Police Department's Bomb Unit responded to Citibank at 1840 M St. on Tuesday, after a man threw a bank duffle bag on the south side of the bank.
Fortunately, no bomb was found after investigators X-rayed the bag.
Officers arrived at the scene after receiving a 2:45 p.m. call about the bag.
Police say a man threw the bag and ran away from the bag -- but kept turning back toward the bag as he was running.
The man told police that he left the bag at the location to got get some water -- and kept looking back to make sure no one stole it. The man was not arrested and was released at the scene.
