Triple digits in forecast all week
After a Fourth of July holiday weekend in the 90s, weather in the central San Joaquin Valley will turn just plain hot, with temperatures hitting triple digits all week.
Today's high in Merced is expected to be 103, according to the National Weather Service. Highs for the week are expected to top out at 108 degrees on Wednesday before gradually dropping to 105 by Friday.
Heading for the Sierra doesn't promise much relief from the heat. Temperatures in Yosemite Valley will hit 101 Tuesday and 103 Wednesday, the weather service said. But on the coast in Morro Bay, patchy fog is expected to hold today's high at 65, with Tuesday's high climbing to 68 degrees.
The National Weather Service has issued the usual warnings to avoid prolonged exposure to the hot sun and never leave children or pets in a parked car, even with the windows cracked open.
