Burglars caught on tape stealing lottery tickets
Merced County sheriff's deputies are seeking a man who was caught stealing lottery scratchers on a store video surveillance camera.
Sheriff's spokesman Tom MacKenzie said an alarm was reported after 5 a.m. at the Handi Stop II in the 1800 block of 21st Street.
When a deputy arrived and spoke with the store manager, he discovered that someone had smashed the glass window and stole scratcher lottery ticket dispensers on the counter, MacKenzie said.
MacKenzie said the store was locked and nothing else was taken.
Investigators are trying to determine which tickets were delivered to the store -- and will keep a lookout for anyone who attempts to claim any prize money from them, he said.
The sheriff is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect. Anyone with information should contact the department at (209) 385-7444.
