Teenager arrested for 'hot-boxing' car
A Merced man was arrested on drug charges after police say they caught him hot-boxing his car near the Applegate Park Zoo on Wednesday night.
The man, identified by police as Saan Saechao, had turned 18 just three days earlier. "Hot-boxing" is slang for filling a sealed car, room or other space with marijuana smoke.
Sgt. Rod Dash discovered Saechao sitting in a silver Honda Civic at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the zoo's parking lot, according to a statement released by the Merced Police Department.
Dash approached the car after he noticed a large amount of smoke coming from it, the statement said.
After speaking with Saechao, Dash believed he was high.
Officers found more than an ounce of marijuana in the car, along with a scale and $298 in cash, police said.
Saechao was arrested on drug charges and booked into Merced County Jail. He bailed out Thursday morning and couldn't be reached later.
