College plans to offer more online courses

Merced College said its new vice president for instruction, Marianne Tortorici, intends to expand online classes for the community.

"Anything we can do to address the needs of our students, we will do it," she said. Tortorici came to Merced College in July from Victor Valley College in Victorville, where she served as deputy superintendent and executive vice president of instruction. She has spent the past 17 years in college administration, including a term as interim vice president of instruction at San Diego City College.

Merced College has 19 new faculty hires and four new deans of instruction. "I am impressed with the degree of professionalism among faculty and staff," she said.
