Police arrest six after probation search
Six people were arrested by the Merced Police Department's Gang Violence Suppression Unit on Saturday following a probation search on a residence on the 300 block of West 19th Street.
Upon their arrival at the scene at 5 p.m., police said one of the suspects was seen running into the residence and tried to lock them out of the residence. After police entered the residence, they saw several suspects run out the back door of the home and another was seen trying to hide narcotics in his pants, according to Sgt. Curt Gorman.
Inside the house, police said Roberto Hernandez (who is on probation) tried to lock himself in a room -- although police eventually forced the door open. Gorman said drug paraphernalia was found inside the home. Hernandez, 45, and suspect Muhammad Hweih, 31, were arrested and booked into Merced County Jail.
They are expected to be charged with possession for sale of narcotics. Four other suspects were arrested, cited and released.
