Five children were arrested Tuesday after police received complaints about graffiti at schools, Merced police reported.
Police arrested two 9-year-old boys, an 11-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy after they admitted to causing more than $2,000 in damage to Gracey and Alicia Reyes schools.
Officer Danny Richardson was contacted by the 12-year-old's parent, who suspected the boy was responsible for graffiti on the Alicia Reyes campus. The boy admitted tagging the school grounds. He also admitted to graffiti at Gracey School and an apartment complex on Mimi Lane. During questioning, police learned about the involvement of the other children.
All five were arrested and released to either the school or directly to their parents. Reports detailing the damage will be submitted to Juvenile Probation for review.
