Letter: Better location

Editor: Many years ago I lived in Merced. I recently heard about the homeless shelter that the city was proposing, but all of the residents in that area seemed quite upset about it.

Where are homeless people supposed to go? It's always, "Not in my neighborhood."

As I recall, the former Castle Air Force Base is not being used for anything at the present time, why not use some of those buildings so that the homeless have shelter?

It's also located behind a big fence which should appeal to those people who are complaining about "safety" issues.

It might cost some money, but I would think that the people who are so against the current spot for the homeless would jump at a chance to help raise money for a better location.
