Letter: Time to take a stand

Editor: Why do we keep enabling the homeless? There are enough beds in shelters to house the homeless, yet some decide to live on the streets -- their choice.

Now the city wants to build a "camp" for these people to pitch a tent. The city bought a 40-acre parcel of agricultural land, had it conveniently re-zoned to fit their criteria, a homeless camp that they plan on turning into a park in "several years."

There are no sidewalks, no lights in the area of Tyler Road and Gerard Avenue, there is an open canal. Are you looking for a potential lawsuit by these people when one falls into the canal and breaks a leg? That's exactly what will happen, it will become a dumpsite for the homeless and their drug and alcohol habits; oh yeah, along with the sex offenders. Farmdale School is within walking distance.

Take a stand; be at the City Council meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 16.
