Letter: What energy policy?
Editor: Regarding the current push by the Republicans to open up drilling off our coast and ANWR, part of President Bush's response at his news conference Tuesday was as follows: "I readily concede that it's not going to produce two barrels of oil tomorrow, but it's going to change the psychology that demand will constantly outstrip supply."
I wonder, is that the same as "a mental recession" as alluded to by former Sen. Phil Gramm?
For the last seven-and-a-half years we have had two oil men running the country: Bush and Vice President Cheney, who developed the country's oil policy in secret. But maybe not, since we appear to have no coherent energy policy.
At his news conference, the president typically blamed Congress for the current crisis.
The Republicans are again using the understandable fear and anger of all Americans by attempting to exploit the crisis to their political advantage.
Sorry gentlemen, this time it is not going to work; the country is on to you.
