THUMBS UP: AFFORDABLE, AT LAST
The city's Redevelopment Agency is selling three lots for $100 each to Habitat for Humanity. That's a good way to clear out blight and bring some affordable housing to those who really need it.
THUMBS UP: HAPPY TAILS TO YOU
The nonprofit Trails of Happy Tails rescued some sad dogs at the county Animal Shelter that were scheduled to be euthanized. Instead, they are heading to British Columbia and new homes.
THUMBS DOWN: ANOTHER SOLDIER DIES
Pvt. Janelle F. King, 23, was the fifth Merced County soldier to die in Iraq since the war started. It was a noncombat death, but to her family, they've still lost a daughter. We hope there are no more.
THUMBS UP: HEAR THE ONE ABOUT ...
At 94, Manuel Cardoza has done a lot of living. Known for his amazing sense of humor, Cardoza is also known for his blood giving. Over the past few decades, he has donated at least 15 gallons, a pint at a time. Nothing funny about that.
