Letter: Disabled's rights

Editor: My father is retired and disabled. Recently, he went to the Merced County Courthouse on some personal business. He brought the required $15 fee for some legal papers but had no extra money. He was told at the last moment that he needed $1.50 for three copies.

He asked if he could keep his place in line while he went out to his car for the money. The court clerk said no, he must go to the end of line.

I want to remind those who work at the courthouse that federal law requires that handicapped people may not be discriminated against and that their needs should be addressed.

SAMUEL MATTHEWS
