Editor: Again the mayor and the Merced council are using South Merced as a scapegoat for the projects that the rest of the city does not want.
The reason: We do not have the voting power that the rest of the city has therefore they put doggie parks in North Merced and homeless camps in South Merced.
This camp will be within walking distance of an elementary school, a high school and also will be close to several subdivisions.
They consider this area to be safe for the homeless, but what about our children, they do not matter? We want our park that the land is supposed to be reserved for. Temporary things in South Merced become permanent. We were never told of their intentions. They are well aware that this is an area where most of the residents are afraid to come forward and complain and that is why I consider what they're doing an abuse of power. Enough of this discrimination. Please let's get together. E-mail the council a complaint or send me your e-mail to gr275@hotmail.com. We are sorry for the homeless but we also care for our children.
