Editor: I greatly appreciated the article in the Tuesday Sun-Star about the City Council's vote to build a homeless campsite at Tyler Road and Gerard Avenue. I happen to live there. Not near it but right next door.
If not for the article, I would have never known. I particularly appreciated the remarks from Nat Woodhouse and Larry Salinas, who were concerned for the safety of students and staff at UC Merced if the camp were to be built near there. No doubt because of the sex offenders and drug addicts among the homeless.
Well, gentlemen, here are my concerns: an 8-year-old grandson, my wife, two elderly parents and a terminally ill daughter who live with us.
I'm also concerned about a council that makes these decisions when we are in the county and can't even vote for or against you. You didn't even bother to notify us.
Thank you, Councilman Noah Lor, for pointing this out and for your opposition. Bill Spriggs and the rest who voted for this, bring your political will to the next council meeting, and I will see you there. I'll be the guy with the Sun-Star in my hand.
