Letter: Reform experiment?

Editor: Where are we headed with the health care reform experiment? It seems that Congress and the current administration want to enact a $1 trillion experiment.

Some leaders say that "doing nothing is not an option." That is a tired and worn out phrase. I don't hear anyone advocating doing nothing, unless that is the only alternative to doing the wrong thing. Reasonable reform is necessary and achievable without massively increasing debt and government bureaucracy.

Government has never been very good in its attempts to provide for those in need. It expands, and more people become dependent upon government.

Are there people who truly need government help? Absolutely, but not nearly as many as big government would have us believe.

What has become of the old adage -- "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; but teach him how to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime?"

It appears that government wants to build more and bigger fish markets so that government can feed more people for their lifetimes. That may serve the needs of big government, but it does not truly help people and society as a whole.
