The Merced boys water polo team put a brief scare into Golden Valley's undefeated Central California Conference title run on Tuesday evening, but couldn't slow the play of Taylor Rocha down the stretch.
GV's star scored five goals and assisted on two more as Golden Valley beat Merced 8-5 at Merced College to wrap up the outright CCC title.
Case Vyfhuzen added a pair of goals and an assist as Golden Valley (11-0 CCC, 21-2) raced out to an early lead.

Hudgins scored a pair of goals and assisted on two more as Merced (8-4, 17-11) took a 4-3 lead in the third quarter.
Rocha led Golden Valley back as it closed the game on a 5-1 run.
Burt Crane made 11 saves in the cage for GV, while Merced's Nick Fazzari saved nine.
GV will try to finish its perfect CCC run when it travels to Buhach Colony on Thursday.
