MARIPOSA -- For the third consecutive year the Southern League volleyball title came down to the final match of the season.
And for the third consecutive year, rivals Mariposa and Le Grand found themselves battling it out for the league's top spot.
Round 1 went to Le Grand two years ago. Mariposa answered with a title win last year.
The duo had to settle for a share this time around.
Martha Berntand had a game-high 14 kills and two aces to lead Mariposa (13-2 SL, 14-6) to a 26-24, 25-27, 25-20, 25-21 victory over Le Grand on Monday night.
The win grabbed them a share of the Southern League crown and got a little revenge after dropping its first two matches with Le Grand this season.
"I just don't think we were prepared to play for a league title tonight," Le Grand coach Gia Priddell said. "We definitely didn't play our best game.
"It was like the girls were just going through the motions."
After dropping the opening game, Le Grand's Samantha Valladeo helped her team capture the second and tie the match at 1-1.
Valladeo had a team-high nine kills on the night and added a game-high six blocks.
Mariposa wouldn't be denied, though.
Setter Emily Darcy ran an effective offense, recording a team-high 18 assists, as Mariposa closed the match out in four.
LG's Megan Tilton led everyone with 25 assists.
Le Grand (13-2, 18-2) will still get the higher playoff seed out of the SL for winning the season series.
"Hopefully we were just saving ourselves for the playoffs," Priddell said.
