Cross Country

STORYLINE: The varsity races for the Sac-Joaquin Subsection Meet begin at 11:10 a.m. with the Div. 1 girls race and conclude at 1:50 p.m. with the girls Div. IV-V race. ... Golden Valley's Teresa Mallory and Atwater's Pedro Osornio will look to build on their CCC titles from a week ago. The same holds true for the Atwater girls team, which won its first title since 1978. Expectations will be equally high for the Golden Valley and Buhach Colony boys teams which split the CCC crown after GV's victory at the CCC finals. ... Livingston sophomore Kelsey Gallegos will look to build upon her Western Athletic Conference title.

Water Polo

WHEN: Division 1 boys today

WHERE: Johansen High

STORYLINE: The Golden Valley boys team has the potential for a deep playoff run. Its quest begins Saturday when they play Fairfield at 2 p.m. Merced will take on Carmichael Jesuit at 9 a.m.

Tennis

WHEN: Monday

WHERE: Modesto High

STORYLINE: Fresh off qualifying two doubles team at the CCC tournament on Thursday, Merced will compete in the team tennis playoffs on Monday against Modesto Metro Conference champion Modesto.
