Losses don't halt Stone Ridge Christian honors (Prep Girls Softball)
Sun-Star Staff Reports
LODI -- The Stone Ridge Christian softball team won six games in a row to reach the playoffs.
Coach Mark Mayo's team even rallied from behind to capture the Mountain Valley League title in dramatic fashion last week.
Which is why Wednesday's result stung a little.
Stone Ridge led 2-1 through four innings against Big Valley Christian in the Division VII playoffs, only to implode in the fifth.
Three bloop singles, six errors and five walks led way to Big Valley's 14-run inning, as Stone Ridge suffered a 16-2 loss at the Lodi Softball Complex.
Christina Azevedo led the way for Big Valley (7-9) with a triple and five RBIs.
Stone Ridge (10-3) took the early lead on RBI singles from Anna Mayo and Katie Strickland.
Anna Mayo was named the MVL's MVP on Tuesday, and was joined by teammates and first-team selections Lyndsey Allen, Melina Biggs and Iyesha McNab.
Mark Mayo was also named the MVL's Coach of the Year.
