Fresno State football nominated for WAC honors
Sun-Star staff reports
DENVER -- Their heroics were enough to give Fresno State a thrilling road victory.
They just weren't enough to earn them Western Athletic Conference players of the week on Monday.
Linebacker Ben Jacobs scored his first career touchdown on a fumble recovery, Tom Brandstater accounted for five scores of his own and A.J. Jefferson racked up 191 kickoff return yards as the Dogs held off the Rockets in overtime on Saturday, 55-54.
However, it was only enough to earn them a nomination for the weekly WAC awards.
Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore, New Mexico State free safety Derrick Richardson and Louisiana Tech linebacker Kiamni Washington were named the Western Athletic Conference offensive, defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Moore went 25 of 37 for 386 yards and three touchdowns in Boise State's 37-32 win at Oregon.
Richardson recorded a career-high 21 tackles in New Mexico State's 34-33 win at UTEP, while Washington made two huge special teams plays in Louisiana Tech's 41-26 win.
