Shirley kicked off Fresno State football team, again

The Jason Shirley saga finally reached a conclusion after a week of surprising and baffling events.

Shirley, a senior defensive tackle, was dismissed from the Fresno State football team yet again Sunday, having committed multiple violations of athletic department policy. He remains on scholarship through the academic year.

The decision, made by athletic director Thomas Boeh, is considered final with no opportunity for an appeal.

Fresno State coach Pat Hill would not comment on Shirley after Sunday's practice. Boeh and Shirley were unavailable.

Shirley was serving a season-long suspension when he won an appeal Wednesday and was reinstated to the team.

But on Thursday, Shirley was held out of practice after he was cited for driving with a suspended license and expired registration early Thursday morning.

Fresno State (6-4) has two more regular-season games remaining and a potential bowl berth. Fresno State hosts Kansas State (5-6) on Saturday.

In all, Shirley was suspended three times this year.
