SALIDA -- Name: Earl Scott
Synopsis: California Highway Patrol officer Earl Scott was shot and killed during an early morning traffic stop Feb. 17, on northbound Highway 99, just south of Hammett Road near Salida.
Motivation: Officer killed during traffic stop
Suspect: Stanislaus County sheriff's homicide investigators arrested Columbus Allen Jr. II in Stockton about 3:30 p.m. on a charge of murder. Allen walked into the Stockton Police Department four hours after the shooting.

Authorities ask anyone with information about this homicide to call Lt. Mick Hardenbrook at 525-7074 or Crime Stoppers at 521-4636. Tipsters can e-mail tips on the Crime Stoppers Web site, or text them to CRIMES (274637) by typing "Tip704" plus the message. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
