New Merced College head football coach Mark Kaanapu will be on campus for a tour of his new school and an introduction to his new players on Friday afternoon.
While everyone involved would love to get started on the 2009 season right away, quite a bit of work still needs to be done before the former Menlo college coach can begin to make his mark on the storied program.
Kaanapu knows where he wants to take the program, but said he needs to do some research before he can formulate a plan of attack. The new Blue Devil coach intends to interview the current MC staff, hoping to get a feel for who shares his ideas for the program's future and where he might need to bring in new faces.
Likewise, Kaanapu said he intends to sit down with each of MC's returning players. He hopes the one-on-one meetings will give a clear picture of where the team's recruiting efforts should be focused.
For now, Kaanapu is just going to try and get a feel for his new home and the people he's going to work with for year's to come.
