Around Town: Marijuana debate

Waiting To Inhale will examine the debate over marijuana and its use as medicine.

Students for Justice will sponsor a meeting from 7 to 9:30 tonight at the Merced College, Room Lesher-111.

The speaker will be Grant Wilson, one of the first people to have a Merced County-issued medical marijuana card.

COULTERVILLE

Roast beef dinners

The Coulterville Commuunity United Methodist Church has resumed its roast beef dinners from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church, Highway 49 across from the Coulterville Park.

Philosophy talk

Professor Jorge Valadez will be the speaker at Merced College on April 2.

He will offer an evening of philosophical conversation titled, "Through the Eyes of the Poor, How Socio-economic Class Affected my Perception of Reality."

'Follies' return

The follies are back this year. The show this year is "Follies Divine 2009" and show dates are 8 p.m. April 3 and 4 and 2 p.m. April 5 at the Merced College Theater.

This year's show was written by local composer Eric Bocks and will showcase local talents such as Mayor Ellie Wooten, Sheriff Mark Pazin, Doug Fluetsch, Pat Lunney, Monsignor Patrick McCormick, MC president Ben Duran and Supervisor John Pedrozo.

Arts, crafts fair

Soroptimist International of Atwater will hold its inaugural spring arts and crafts fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 4, 760 E. Bellevue Road.

Admission is free. Enjoy vendors providing jewelry, toys, quilts, crafts and gifts for Easter, Mother's Day or any occasion. The sandwich shop will open at 11 a.m. Proceeds go to support women and girls through high scool scholarships.

Aglow meeting

The Merced Aglow International will host its next meeting on April 4. The speaker will be LaVerne Ramos and her topic will be "The Lord's Prayer."

Women of all denominations are welcome.

Easter egg hunt

Black Pearls Motorcycle Club, Merced Chapter, will hold its 11th annual Easter egg hunt from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 11 at McNamara Park.

There will be a bounce house, face painting, prize baskets, gift bags for the kids and corn dogs, hot dogs and drinks. Admission is free to the public. This year will also host a Easter motorcycle run. The entry fee is one Easter basket per rider.
