Around Town: Memorial Day ceremony slated

LIVINGSTON/DELHI -- The Livingston/Delhi VFW No. 8327 and their Ladies Auxiliary will host their annual Memorial Day ceremony in the Livingston Memorial Park, corner of Park and Main streets, at 6 p.m. today. Refreshments will be served at the Veterans Memorial Building following the ceremony. For more information, call (209) 394-2059.

Another Memorial Day ceremony scheduled

Everyone is invited to a Memorial Day service today at noon at the Courthouse Park honoring all who have made the supreme sacrifice for our country. Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 691 along with the Merced American Legion and VFW Post. Apprentice Seaman USNR Victor A. Wassmer of Ballico, who was killed in action on Oct. 12, 1942, had a tree planted in his honor and a bronze place marked the location; however, 67 years later it was covered with about 18 inches of sod. The plaque was retreived and will be officially dedicated on the World War II Memorial at the Courthouse Park. For more information, call (209) 356-1938.

Harmony Valley Chorus to perform

USS Iwo Jima Class Association Reunion

The USS Iwo Jima Class Association, which consists of USS Iwo Jima (LPH2/LHD7), USS Okinawa (LPH3), USS Tripoli (LPH10/CVE64) and the USS New Orleans (LPH11) for all ships company, embarked staffs and all embarked Navy and Marine Corps personnel, will host a reunion Sept. 1-20. Breakfast Lions Club has dropoff locations

The Merced Breakfast Lions Club maintains a series of drop-off locations for old, unused, prescription eyeglasses or hearing aids. Help the club turn the dream of vision and sound into a clear reality. Dropoff sites are at the offices of Drs. David Baba, Paul Smith, Save Mart at Olive and G streets or the Optical Deptartments at Costco or Wal-Mart. SCORE offers free services to businesses

SCORE is the acronym for the Service Corps of Retired Executives and they are counselors to America's Small Business. Their service is free and they help bring useful resources to a brand-new or existing business on how to transition to a fully functioning successful small business. Counseling is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m. Workshops are also available. For more information or to make an appointment, call (209) 724-2033.
