Around Town: Casino Night

Jerry Yang, the 2007 World Series Poker Champion, will appear at the Casino Night at the Ag Museum for the Kiddieland Casino Night at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Dairy princess

Nine young women will compete for the title of dairy princess during the ceremonies at the upcoming District 6 Dairy Princess Contest on June 11 at Our Lady of the Assumption Hall in Turlock.

Mentor program

The UC Merced Police Department will begin the mentor summer program on June 13.

The second annual program will take place at UC Merced and will culminate in a field trip to bring the program's curriculum to life.

You can help make this year's program a success by sponsoring a Junior Bobcat for $50. We also need donations of sprial notebooks, No. 2 pencils and other school supplies.

Free lunches

The Winton School District will participate in the summer food service program to provide all children 18 and under a free lunch.

Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Winfield Elementary School, 6981 Chestnut Lane.

New car club

The Central Valley Mustang Riders is a new car club and they will be taking a cruise to Mariposa on June 20.

Recipes wanted

Winton will be celebrating its centennial year in 2011 and as a part of the celebration the Winton Historical Society will publish a new recipe book, "The Winton Centennial Cookbook."

Women's Bible study

Coffee Break, an interdenominational women's Bible study will kick off its new season on Sept. 8 and go through May.

The evening sessions will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and the morning sessions will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, at Yosemite Church, 2230 E. Yosemite Ave.

Free child care is available and women from all churches are encouraged to attend.
