Around Town: Barbecue, car wash

Merced High School Tradition Basketball Boosters are sponsoring a barbecue and car wash from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Alexander and G streets with tri-tip sandwiches, hot links and barbecued ribs. For more information, call (209) 628-2545.

MARIPOSA

Flea market

The Mariposa County Fish and Game Protective Association will host its 44th annual flea market from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Fish and Game Hall on Darrah Road off Highway 49.

Booths are $25 for a 15- by 10-foot booth with plenty of room for camping and parking.

Vendors can set up Friday night and camp out. Pancake breakfast will start off the day at 6 a.m. Admission is free.

The city Parks and Community Services will offer an animal-themed children's art class from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday to July 16.

California State University, Stanislaus will host a CalPERS Retirement planning fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Bizzini Hall, One University Circle.

CalPERS members include all state and classified public school employees, county workers and California State University employees on the Stanislaus campus.

Chamber meeting

The Merced County Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon June 17 at Fernando's Bistro, 510 W. Main St. for "Law and Order in Merced County."

Superior Court Judge Brian McCabe will be the speaker. Cost for lunch for members is $20 and $24 for non-members.

Leadership alumni

Leadership Merced, the leadership program sponsored by the Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce has announced that it will be forming an alumni association.

Merced Leadership classes 1 through 23 are encouraged to contact the Chamber office at (209) 384-7092 to request a pledge card to become a full-fledged member of the Leadership Merced Alumni Association. Dues are $20 per year.

Class 24 is currently planning a kick-off event to promote membership and involvement in the association. For more information, call (209) 384-7092.
