Mother, two daughters unhurt in crash

WINTON -- A mother and her two daughters were unhurt in a single vehicle crash Tuesday, after their car rolled over on Santa Fe Drive, near Wallace Road.

California Highway Patrol investigators say the woman will likely face charges, however, because she was driving with a suspended license.

The crash was reported around 1:30 p.m. The driver, 25-year-old Joy Alger of Winton, was traveling eastbound on Santa Fe. According to CHP Officer Luis Lara, for unknown reasons, she lost control of her 1995 Volkswagen Jetta. As the car drifted onto the right shoulder, she overcorrected to the left, and the car swerved back to the right, onto the dirt shoulder.

The car rolled over onto its roof, Lara said. Fortunately, Alger's two daughters, a 6-year-old and a 2-year-old, were both properly restrained in child seats. As a precaution, however, all three occupants were taken to a local hospital, Lara said.

Lara said charges will be filed with the Merced County District Attorney's Office.
