Kameron Huddleston's condition still critical

FRESNO -- Kameron Huddleston, a standout defensive end at Merced High and Merced College, is still on life support in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Agnes Medical Center in Fresno.

Huddleston is in a coma and listed in critical condition, the hospital's Director of Communications Kelley Sanchez said on Monday afternoon.

"His condition hasn't changed," Sanchez said.

Huddleston, 18, has been in a coma since Friday, Aug. 7, when he was admitted for routine surgery on his right knee. The surgery was a success, but complications arose during recovery later that night.

Kameron suffered flash pulmonary edema shortly after his surgery, the family said, meaning his lungs had filled with fluid. A tube was inserted to help with the drainage, and he was sedated to protect his knee and the breathing device.

Kameron has been in a coma ever since.

At some point, oxygen was cut off from his brain, his father Randy Huddleston said. CPR was also administered.
