Hot rod show
The Valve Burners will host its 20th annual Super Sunday Hot Rod Show at the Merced County Fairgrounds on Sunday.
The show features street rods, customs, classics and muscle cars through 1972 and music. Entry fee is $25, spectators are $4 and children under 12 are free. Raffle prizes galore.

Academy night
Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced, and Rep. George Radanovich, R-Mariposa, will sponsor academy information night at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Harvest Hall, 3800 Cornucopia Way, Modesto.
This will familiarize high school juniors and seniors and their parents with career opportunities available at the U.S. military service academies. Each member of Congress is allowed a total of five appointees in each service academy.

Pops concert
Coast to Coast is the theme of the Merced Music Guild's 49th annual pops concert at 8 p.m. Oct. 10 at St. Patrick's Social Hall, 673 W. Yosemite Ave.
Featured will be Ken Taylor with favorites from Broadway to Hollywood and Tim Johnson and his Sierra Riders. Tickets are $35 and include the concert, hosted bar, hors d'oeuvres and dessert.
