Editor: I read the letter to the editor Wednesday "Homeless fix" and I visited www.site4041.net and now I am thinking, why not Merced?
Isn't it about time for a comprehensive solution to our homeless problem that is more creative than simply finding a place for them to stay out of the cold for a night or two?
There are several ideas in this proposal that I like:
a) I like the fact that a homeless person must produce some work in order to stay in the facility;
b) I like the "money system" that provides payment for work, but not in cash, so the chances of it being used for other than food are not great;
c) I like the fact that there are ample rooms already available and that bathroom facilities are already in place; and
d) I like the fact that the solution proposed is comprehensive and not just another "Band-Aid" short-term answer.
I urge everyone to visit the Web site and review this unique idea and then let's get moving through our City Council and the Board of Supervisors. We could do this since we already own the hospital building and the grounds.
