Buhach Colony football puts on party hats, beats Enochs

ATWATER -- As the final seconds ticked off the clock, Corey Chapman was busy organizing the post-game celebration.

Chapman walked up and down the Buhach Colony sideline telling all his teammates to meet a local pizza parlor.

Chapman had plenty of reasons to celebrate.

"We're 2-0 and it's my birthday on Monday," Chapman said. "It feels good."

Chapman came up with two big runs late with touchdown runs of 17 and 92 yards in the fourth quarter to help BC defeat Enochs 33-20 on Saturday night at Falcon Field.

Enochs (0-1) couldn't find an answer for Buhach Colony's fly sweep.

Jerrell Davis had his number called over and over again in the first half and the Buhach Colony junior picked up big chunks of yards on the sweep.

Davis went around the left end and raced 48 yards to give BC a 6-0 lead with 8:08 left in the first quarter. Davis added another 17-yard touchdown run with 31 seconds left in the second quarter that gave Buhach Colony a 19-8 lead heading into halftime.

Davis finished with 143 yards on 13 carries. However, a neck injury sidelined the speedy flyback for most of the second half.

"The play they were giving us was Jerrell's play," said BC head coach Kevin Swartwood. "When Jerrell got hurt, we put Corey in his spot."

Enochs didn't go away in the second half.

Aided by some costly Buhach Colony penalties, Enochs stormed into the lead. Running back J.T. Boles hauled in a screen pass from quarterback Christian Kahler and raced 23 yards for a touchdown. Four minutes later, Donnavan Johnson scored on a 6-yard touchdown run to give Enochs a 20-19 lead with 3:10 left in the

third quarter.

Buhach Colony was penalized 10 times for 94 yards.

"We have to learn how to grow up," said BC cornerback Jordy Kaiser about the penalties. "We need to know when to shut our mouths. It comes with maturity. We need to play smarter."

In need of a big play, Buhach Colony turned to Dallon Muse.

Facing a fourth-and-13 late in the fourth quarter, BC quarterback Ben Watkins found Muse in the left flat. Muse then went to work, stepping out of a first tackle and then avoiding another tackler on his way to a 14-yard game that kept Buhach Colony's hopes alive at the Enochs' 17-yard line.

"What a play," Swartwood said. "Dallon was a little banged up. He sprained his knee. It wasn't anything big, but to do what he did on that play in the fourth quarter showed a lot of character."

Muse's heroics set up Chapman, who scored a 17-yard touchdown on the very next play to put Buhach Colony back ahead 25-20 with 4:04 left in the game.

"Me and my line got together and we agreed that we had to score," Chapman said. "I wasn't going to go down until I got to the end zone."

Enochs still had time to put together a drive and moved the ball deep into Buhach Colony territory.

However, Kaiser stepped in front Enochs' D.C. Gardeley to intercept a Kahler pass at the BC 6-yard line with 2:00 left on the clock.

"I turned my head around to see the ball and I saw it coming my way," Kaiser said. "I just kept thinking, I've got to catch this, I've got to catch this. A lot of credit has to go to my linebackers, who got pressure on the quarterback that set up the interception."

Kaiser did and Chapman put the finishing touch on the win by breaking lose for a 92-yard touchdown run.

"I cut back and all I saw was green," said Chapman, who finished with 153 yards and

15 carries. "That's all I can say. I have to give all the credit to my offensive line again."

Chapman and his teammates were ready to celebrate.

"This group has some confidence," Swartwood said. "Enochs is a solid football team. They were in the playoff hunt last year. They were a playoff contender. They didn't quite make it, but we feel good about this win."
