Southern charm

Merced Community Services will host an informational meeting regarding an upcoming trip to the South from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Student Union building.

They will also have a bus trip to Apple Hill on Saturday for the Apple Festival. The bus trip leaves at 7 a.m. and returns at 7 p.m. cost is $65 and includes transportation, admission and refreshments.

Adult flu clinics

Merced County will hold seasonal flu clinics for adults in October.

The dates for the clinics are: Merced are 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 1 at 260 E. 15th St.; Atwater from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 15, 760 E. Bellevue Road; and Los Banos from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 21, at 403 F St.

These are for people 60 and over, those with chronic health conditions, health care workers, those who will be pregnant during the flu season or reside in nursing homes or long-term facilities.

Awareness month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Dressbarn in Atwater will let customers Adopt A Biscuit, a stuffed plush dog, for $5.

For every one sold, $2 will go to the American Cancer Society. This will continue through Oct. 31 while supplies last.

Ma Kelley Shoot-Out

The 13th annual Ma Kelley Shoot-Out golf tournament will be on Oct. 2 at Stevinson Ranch Golf Course.

The golf tournament, live auction and raffle will benefit the UC Merced Athletics program. Cost is $150 and includes range balls, lunch, golf, cart and dinner. The tournament is a personal-person scramble. Dinner and live auction only is $35.

Arts, cultural fest The 16th annual Big Valley Arts and Cultural Festival will be Oct. 3 at Main and N streets.

There will be free art activities for kids, artists showing their work, foods, beer and wine garden, art demonstrations and live performances, following the Lions Club Breakfast.
