Around Town: Community garden

The Merced Community Action Agency is accepting applications to establish a commuinty garden at the D Street homeless shelter in Merced. Nonprofit organizations and community clubs are welcome to apply by today. Applications can be requested by calling (209)723-4565 or downloaded at mercedcaa.org.

The University of California Master Gardener Program is accepting applications for the 2010 training. Applications are available at the UC Cooperative Extension office at 2145 Wardrobe Ave. and are due on Wednesday. For more information, call (209) 385-7403.

Arts classes

The city of Merced's Parks and Community Services Dept. will offer One Stroke Painting and Beyond workshops on Wednesday, Oct. 21 and Oct. 24. Cost is $25.

They will also offer a Creative Kids Crafts class for ages 5 to 11 on Oct. 22 thru Dec. 3 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Cost is $35 for the session or $7 per class. Info: (209)385-6298.

Drama productions

The Merced College Drama Department's fall production is a collection of short plays by David Ives at the College Theatre. The production opens at 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Oct. 16-17, at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Oct. 18. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students, faculty/staff and seniors. Info: (209) 384-6284.

Spaghetti dinner, raffle

The La Grange Improvement Association will host its annual Spaghetti feed on Saturday from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Oddfellows Hall on Main Street. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for kids 5 through 10. Grand prize for the raffle is a $100 gift certificate. Info: (209) 853-2110.

Preview of Champions

The Merced Marching 100 will sponsor its 15th annual Preview of Champions on Saturday at the Merced College Stadium, gates open at 2:30 p.m. and show at 3:45 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and students and Children 2 and under are free. Bible study

Yosemite Church hosts an Interdenominational Women's Bible Study on Tuesdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and on Mondays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the church, 2230 E. Arbor Gallery show
