Halloween is pumpkin carving time, and at Mercy Medical Center Merced, pumpkin carving is a big deal. Employees compete for a gift certificate for the best carved pumpkin, and the competition is fierce. One employee used his pumpkin to promote Mercy's new hospital on G Street. We'll see whether it wins, but no matter what pumpkin takes first, Merced citizens are the winner when the new hospital opens next May.
