Exporters earn high recognition

HILMAR -- Hilmar Ingredients has been named 2009 Exporter of the Year by the U.S. Dairy Export Council and "Dairy Foods" magazine.

Hilmar Ingredients is the whey protein and lactose products division of Hilmar Cheese Co. As Hilmar Cheese makes cheese, a liquid called whey is drained. This liquid contains whey protein, lactose and water. It's used in products such as infant formula, nutrition bars and sports drinks.

The award recognizes Hilmar Ingredients' work in pursuing global demand for U.S. dairy products. The company's products are sent to more than 40 countries.
