Football: Washington Union's McCurley airs it out on Dos Palos

DOS PALOS -- The Dos Palos football team didn't have an answer for Adam McCurley and the Washington Union offense on Friday night.

McCurley threw for 304 yards and tossed four touchdowns during a 42-14 rout of Dos Palos at Bill Hume Stadium.

Washington Union improved to 5-0 in the North Sequoia League and clinched the outright title.

"They're a good team," Dos Palos head coach Mike Sparks said. "And McCurley is the best we've seen in a long time -- well, since last year.

"He's on the money, he has velocity and it's hard to get to him."

Dos Palos fell to 3-2 in league, which was mainly due to Washington Union getting off to a quick start in the second half.

Dos Palos only trailed 7-0 after the first quarter. Washington Union went ahead by two TDs after McCurley connected on his second touchdown.

Dos Palos made it 14-7 after Kevin Schofield (26 carries, 146 yards) punched in a touchdown from 3 yards out.

"Obviously Schofield is a great player," Washington Union coach Jeff Freitas said. "He does a good job of reading blocks, and if he sees a crease, you're in trouble."

However, Dos Palos was the one in trouble after Washington Union took less than 90 seconds to score and take a 21-7 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Washington Union scored 21 unanswered and went into the fourth ahead 42-7.

DP scored its second and final touchdown when David Quiroz (13 carries, 54 yards) scored from 2 yards out to make up the final score.
