On Deck

Soccer

The Merced United Explosion under-14 girls competitive soccer team is looking for a few more players born between Aug. 1, 1995, and July 31, 1996.

If interested, contact coach Lance Eber at 631-4941.

Softball

The National Softball Association is set to host a number of girls fastpitch tournaments at Joe Herb Park.

The No Mercy in Merced is today and Sunday and the Last Chance Tournament is Nov. 21-22.

Basketball

Registration for the city of Merced's 2010 Junior NBA Warriors Basketball League will take place through Nov. 20.

There will be Pee Wee (third and fourth grades), JV (fifth and sixth grades) and varsity (seventh and eighth grades).

Games will be played Monday-Thursday at the McCombs Youth Center or local middle school gyms.

Register at the city of Parks and Community Services on weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Merced High boys basketball team is hosting an alumni game today. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Any former players interested in playing, should contact Merced coach Marcus Knott at 658-5168.

There is a $5 entry fee. There will also be a fish fry in the cafeteria immediately following for $10.

Wrestling

The GV Mat Cats youth wrestling club's folkstyle season is now in session for all boys and girls ages 5-16. Practices are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 6-7-30 p.m. inside the Golden Valley High School wrestling room. The Folkstyle season runs through February, with local tournaments every Sunday. Club dues are $60 for the entire season (includes T-shirt). Participants will also need to have a current USA Wrestling membership. Contact Colin Downs at (209) 564-7871 for more information.

Running

The Merced Running Club will host a Turkey Trot Fun Run on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Applegate Park.

The 1K for children, 13 and under, starts at 8:15 a.m. the 2- and 5-mile run/walk will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The 2- and 5-mile races are $15 pre-registration and $17 on race day. The 1K is $8 pre-registration and $10 on race day.

A portion of the proceeds benefit the Merced Rescue Mission's annual Thanksgiving dinner.

Football

The Annual "Black and Gold" Dinner and Auction benefitting Buhach Colony High School's football and baseball programs will be held tonight at the Merced County Fairgrounds.

Tickets will be on sale at all Buhach Colony football games or by contacting Buhach Colony Quarterback Club treasurer Deann Floro at (209) 233-2827.
