Three students earn migrant education scholarships

Three students have been awarded migrant education scholarships, according to the Merced County Office of Education.

Norma Huerta of Chowchilla High School won the top scholarship, worth $500, while Livingston High's Bertha Gomez and Pitman (Turlock)'s Jorge Contreras each earned $100 scholarships.

Applicants for the Migrant Education Region III scholarships were measured by grade point average, educational goals, community involvement and financial need, the county office of education said in a press release.

Huerta, along with winners from the other 23 regions throughout California, will participate at the 31st annual State Migrant Parent Conference scheduled for March 19-21 at the Westin Hotel in Los Angeles.

All three winners will be honored at a parent advisory committee meeting on Nov. 30.
