Buhach football overmatched by St. Mary's

STOCKTON -- The Buhach Colony football team found out just how good undefeated Stockton St. Mary's was Friday night.

St. Mary's raced out to a six-touchdown lead by halftime and cruised to a 49-7 win in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs.

"St. Mary's is an excellent football team," Buhach Colony coach Kevin Swartwood said. "They're the best we've seen, and they're legit.

"We got on our heels quick, but I'm proud of the kids for playing hard in the second half and not giving up."

St. Mary's (11-0) scored three touchdowns in each of the first two quarters. However, BC (6-5) came out and played hard in the second half.

After St. Mary's standout Josh Harper scored the last of his three TDs on a 36-yard sweep that made it 49-0, BC started to rally.

Buhach controlled the ball for almost the entire third quarter, piecing together a 15-play drive that lasted nearly six minutes.

Nick Datray hooked up with Matt Small for a 15-yard gain to get the first drive of the second half started. BC's Daniel Bolster also picked up a key first down on a 13-yard rush off a fake punt that extended the drive as well.

Dallon Muse (32 carries, 201 yards) capped the drive with a 2-yard TD for BC's only score.
